ARC’s cool SUMMER hot Record + CD SALE

18 05 2012

Well its Summer Sale time again, details below.  Thought we would highlight some rare-ish mint Punk books that we will be selling, beginning Saturday June 9!

First, of course, is my book, Volume One: The International Discography of the New Wave, One Ten Records, paper, 1981.  This is the first edition, second printing, OP, signed, and includes the original promotional postcard, and the postcard for Volume Two.  I just checked Amazon online and, without a signature or extra do-das, they are selling  2 new from  $351.96 and 14 used from  $55.29   Our price: $25.00

Another fan Favorite is Punk by Isabelle Anscombe and Dike Blair, Urizen, paper, 1978.  Amazon has 8 used from $75.00 – $191.25     Our price: $50.00

Today Daily News critic David Hinckley donated over 200 music books, so we’re busy sorting, cataloging and scanning this collection.  Looks like about 60 are third copies, in perfect condition, and will be available at our sale.  Thanks David!   Looks like we’ll also have a few programs from the Fillmore East at this year’s sale in the collector’s corner.  But books are just a small part of our sale of over 20,000 items, so do drop by…

FUG YOU

21 02 2012

ARCsters recently attended the opening, book signing and reading at the swell Ed Sanders gallery show at Boo-Hooray Gallery on Canal Street.  Ed was kind enough to sign a copy of his new book, Fug You, (here’s a good review from the times) and two of our albums.  The reading centered on his obscenity arrest and trying to avoid getting the judge who sentenced Lenny Bruce.   Street pretzels and mustard were served.

We were a little surprised to see that one cover that we had signed was shot by society photographer Richard Avedon.  Seemed the antithesis of what the Fugs were up to.  Then an industry insider told us that a ‘certain exec’ at Reprise/Warner Bros. used big name photographers like Avedon just to say they owned a print by Avedon.   My guess is that the cost was a chargeback to the artists!

The show was put together by avid collector and impresario Johan Kugelberg, who was kind enough to offer to help us track down the recordings we are missing.

Here’s a list of The Fugs’ holdings @ ARC

Minuet of Mayhem

22 04 2010

My ‘Minute of Mayhem’ honoring punk impresario Malcolm McLaren (who I was not a fan of, but, geeze, he did do something) is the 45 rpm 12” Booji Boy version of “(I cån’t gèt mé nö) Satisfaction” by Devo (BOY 1, 1977).  Malcolm was buried today, and the family suggested a fitting alternative to a minute of silence.

Boogie Boy was the boy’s own label outa CLE, Ohio.  It’s a sheer joy homemade mix, sticker pasted on a generic sleeve, with an opening that is way red, back when there were VU meters that needed to be adjusted.  No really, red as in the speakers are about to pop, what real pop is all about.  You can get the later, limited Warner Brothers and Stiff versions, professionally mixed by Eno – my favorite producer makes it palatable, but it’s no plate breaker.  So get loud for just a minute or so today.  My Earth Day is seismic.

So lets see some other graffiti from bands around the world!

We would love to publish your photos on our webthing, or, just see if there are any more out there!
